The beach did just fine with Sandy. We gained sand at the dune and the beach flattened a little. The waves at times hit the bottom of the new pier''''''''
At one point the waves reached the front of the B&B. That was no fun, plus all the crap from the Dolphin Inn washed into our driveway.

This summer marks the first time that the Bodie Island Lighthouse has been open for public tours. A major restoration of the lighthouse and its first-order Fresnel lens was recently completed. Guided tours conducted daily will offer park visitors a memorable, unique, and personal experience in this 1871 historic structure as well as a pristine view of the surrounding lands from the top balcony.

Info on unc2008 tripadvisor review:
This is the email I sent to tripadvisor in response to unc2008 review:
First of all we are a traditional Bed and Breakfast. Owner occupied, this is our home that we open up to travelers worldwide. Ninety Nine point nine percent of our guest respect this fact and treat our home accordingly. The particular guests in question wanted an early check in and when we told them the room would not be available until check in time they told us they needed a early check in because they were hot and sticky and needed to shower? Point of this explained below.
We give a guest orientation upon arrival so guests know the area and our features and where things are located. Upon their arrival they wanted no part of an orientation. We do not know if they have been to a B&B before but like all B&B's we have a guest area, common area and owner area. Below is a picture of a owner area that we caught them in and you can clearly see it is marked private do not open.. They said they were looking for a wine opener. They did not shower but immediately started drinking. Again, we know this because we live here.
We are submitting photos of the room after their departure. We spent several hours removing wine from carpets, sheets and walls. It was not merely an accident on their part, the wine stains were in two separate rooms. They left the shower curtain on the outside of the tub and flooded the entire bathroom prior to their departure. The water ran down into the level below. Most of our guest when they have an accident let use know so we can take care of it promptly, rather than letting it sit and making it difficult if not impossible to clean up. In their email below they said they did everything possible to clean up, we saw no evidence of this unless they used the beach towel they took with them in an attempt to clean up.
They left before normal checkout and during our breakfast time, interrupting our other guest, so we did not see the room while they were here. When we contacted them about the mess they said they were sorry. Their response was that because we are a business we should just take care of it and not hold them responsible? If you read their email below this appears to be a regular happening for them. We billed them $60.00 for the excessive cleaning. If we had brought in professionals it would have been at least three times as much. My wife and I spent several additional hours trying to get the room ready for our next guest, we did not make out on this deal. The room was not available for normal check in for our new guests due to this.
They called us to discuss the matter but began yelling so loudly I was unable to understand them, so I hung up. They immediately called us back and again I tried to explain our situation. Instead of listening they got personal, calling me ignorant, having bad grammar etc and they said "we even paid full price". When I refused to not charge them they said the would write bad reviews about us.
We then contacted our reservation specialist for advice. I copied their email suggestion below for your review.
As far as them taking items, I told them if they returned our stuff I would re-reimburse them. They never went to the beach so accidentally taking a beach towel does not make sense. We are on the beach nobody ever takes our beach towels to their cars they take them to the beach.
This is our seventh year doing this and no one has ever left as much damage as these two.
All this over $60.00 - they are responsible for their actions not us-
Lets try this
